Chambers Guide to the UK Legal Profession
One of the market leaders on the south coast, Lester Aldridge, is doing a lot of things right. For one, it is breaking into national niche markets by recruiting wisely and developing niches where it can compete with the best. This is most evident in asset and consumer finance, where it is one of a handful of firms outside London to make it into our new national table. It has a particularly strong name for representing motor financiers, with an impressive portfolio of clients including Singer & Friedlander, Toyota Financial Services and Volkswagen Financial Services.
The ‘fast track’ debt recovery team is another department that is making a name of itself nationwide and attracting prestigious clients. LA's family and matrimonial team is also considered the best in the region. It competes with top London firms, advising on high-value disputes, often with an international dimension.
These are some of the headline areas, but the pattern is repeated across the firm. In a range of other departments, from insolvency and corporate finance, to construction, litigation and personal tax, its growing profile is seeing it increasingly winning work across, and beyond its region.
Another thing the 130-lawyer firm evidently gets right is the thorny issue of work/life balance. At least it does if its appearance in the Sunday Times list of 100 Best Companies to Work for is anything to go by. And it certainly has no trouble attracting lawyers from City firms, whose expertise ranges from corporate finance and real estate to employment. Clients, meanwhile, speak volumes on the friendly collegiate atmosphere of the firm, as well as the benefit of City quality at regional rates.
Credit Today Lawyer Awards 2005
In 2004, Karen Savage, joint chief executive of LA Fast Track and a solicitor and partner with Lester Aldridge, achieved the accolade of Litigation Specialist of the Year in the Credit Today Awards 2004 after being nominated by a number of her clients. Karen was also short listed for the same award this year.
